Designing Through Plural Lenses: Reflection on Making Intersectionality Actionable
Design Research Society Explorations Workshop | June 9, 2026, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Without embracing intersectional thinking, design perpetually overlooks the realities of those facing multiple forms of discrimination.
Recap & continuing the conversation…
The workshop explored:
How designers can acknowledge and value multiple ways of being and knowing within a design process
Experimenting with non-academic ways of sharing to understand the practice of intersectional thought in design
We would like to continue the conversation and engage others in discussion and reflection on making intersectionality actionable in design practice.
Support further reflection
We will gather the artifacts produced during the session and assemble a comprehensive visual map. This map will highlight synergies and contrasts to trigger further collective reflection.
Miro board We have created a dedicated Miro board to host these materials. The board will remain open after the workshop so the conversation can continue. You are welcome to revisit it to review the artifacts, add your thoughts and reflections, and share feedback.
Please note: The Miro board will remain open until the 15th of August. After that date, we will analyze the collected input and share the final results.
